Tooth Coloured Restorations (Fillings)

Tooth coloured restorations, commonly known as ‘white fillings’ or composite resin fillings, are an effective solution for restoring fractured or decayed teeth. They can also be used cosmetically to restore discoloured or disfigured teeth, offering an array of benefits:

Very discreet

Porcelain, glass and resin are tooth-coloured materials which create a natural translucent appearance. Since your dental practitioner is able to blend the filling to match an identical tooth shade, no one will notice you’ve had a filling unless you tell them.

Safer than ‘black’ fillings

Black metal amalgam fillings used in the past are made from approximately 50 per cent mercury. The presence of this toxic metal raises concerns of mercury vapour release and the discolouration of surrounding teeth. Neither are issues for white fillings. Another plus is that less tooth structure is removed when preparing a white filling and they can be repaired if damaged.

Long-lasting and durable

White fillings are stronger thanks to the combination of materials. They completely harden in seconds and chemically bond to a patient’s tooth structure to prevent further breakdown in the future.

Schedule a dental assessment with our team if you are experiencing any tooth pain or temperature sensitivity; symptoms which could indicate you are experiencing tooth decay and require a filling.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
